Ready to start your Spring vegetable garden planting? I planted our garden this past week with the assistance of my 4 ½ year old grand daughter. The average last frost date in this area is March 15th. If you plant near that date you may still have to scramble to cover up all the plants if we doget another freeze. I prefer to get the extra week or so of growing time vs. waiting to start my Spring vegetable garden planting until April.
In the winter I added leaves mulched up by a mower to the garden and rototilled them in. They will compost during the growing season and help feed the veggies. In February I added about 4 inches of compost from Silver Creek Materials. They get materials from Miller Brewery to add to their compost. Good Stuff! With that rototilled in, the garden was raked into rows so the plants would be in a raised berm when planted.
Always follow spacing directions when planting. Bonnieplants provides detailed planting instructions for specific plants.
